Psychological and Neurocognitive Assessment
The aim of psychological and neurocognitive assessment is to develop a clear picture of how a person is functioning and to determine factors that may interfere with their ability to function more effectively. Assessment involves integrating information from a wide variety of sources including a clinical interview, behavioral observations, review of medical and educational records, as well as tests administration.

The test administration aims to identify areas of cognitive strength and weakness in a wide range of domains including: attention and concentration, sensation and perception, memory, speech and language skills, abstract reasoning, problem solving skills, motor skills and coordination, intellectual and academic functioning, as well as personality and behavioral functioning. The test administration requires between 6 to 10 hours of face-to-face contact between the psychologist and the patient, depending on the complexity of the issue at hand and/or whether prior evaluations have been conducted and are available.
Typically, the evaluation process is conducted over several meetings in my practice, conviniently located in midtown Manhattan. Once the testing portion has been completed, the tests are scored and interpreted and a report is written. The report will contain information obtained from the clinical interview, medical, academic or other records that have been provided, and the interpretation of the test results. The report will include a summary section that outlines the findings, including diagnostic information, strengths and weakness, and their impact on the patient’s functioning. Finally, the report will outline treatment recommendations for the patient, other clinicians involved in treatment, and/or the school.
